I want to talk about this poster for a second. I’m sure several of you have seen it already today, I’ve seen it several times on my dash.

All the Rape, No Subtitles is an accurate description of the movie. That’s what happened.
Here’s the joke in this poster: Look we sensationalized rape again! Another movie that turns rape into entertainment! Haha, we remade the Swedish films and just took out the subtitles, have some rape for your enjoyment.
Hopefully now that I’ve put it in those terms you can see what a problem this poster is. But, if not, let me break it down for you. It’s simple: you just turned rape into the punchline of a joke.
Rape is NOT funny.
It’s not funny for the survivors in any way shape or form.
This poster is not funny for anyone who sat through this movie, trying not to have a panic attack from how graphic it was. It’s not funny for anyone who chose not to see the movie in order to avoid being triggered. It’s not funny for anyone who held hands with someone through that scene and still had to get up and leave to throw up.
Basically, it’s just not funny. Because it’s laughing about how rape is such an excellent form of entertainment, it got Oscar nominated.
And the fact I’ve seen it several times on my dash, is utterly disappointing. I know it’s in a collection of posters, but the fact that THIS poster is being spread around is continuing the idea that rape is considered a joke, and an excellent form of entertainment. Whether or not it’s with a collection of others, it’s still there. People are still laughing at it. For some, this is the funniest poster of the lot. Disappointing, indeed.

Another problem here is that people are seeing the film as another instance of America making their own version of everything. Don’t get me wrong, I hate how they do that, but this is different. This film is a work of art. Sure it has some pretty graphic rape scenes that people think were unnecessary, but I thought they showed just how much of a weak, pathetic and low act rape is, and how much it hurts the victim – mentally and physically. Rape is not funny at all, but people, TV and film treat it so lightly and often joke about it. I admire David Fincher’s full-on approach because it’s what people need to see. It’s such a powerful scene(s). More powerful than any other government campaign or anything like that. If anyone raped someone or sexually assaulted someone after seeing that I’d be completely speechless. Rapists are the scum of the earth, and people who joke about aren’t much better. They’re half the problem. They make rape seem like it isn’t a big deal and almost as if it’s okay – just a normal act. Well listen up dickhead scumbag lowlifes. It’s not fucking okay, so stop with your “innocent” little jokes and stop making it seem okay.
